Case study

Wright State University Child Development Center

Located in Dayton OH, Wright State CDC, part of Mini University, Inc., mainly serves families who require long hours of childcare. Staff at Mini U know that all children thrive when they feel cared for and respected.

Providing warm, homelike environments visibly demonstrates this respect for the child. In this video, Julie Thorner, President of MiniU, and Brittany Leavelle, director of Wright State CDC, discuss their decision to choose beautiful, natural furniture for their center and how this affects children’s play and learning.

I think creating a homelike environment is so important for children because they’re spending so much of their childhood with us. . . . We want to provide that safe and fun place that reminds them of home and also gives them new textures and new opportunities to explore, because that’s how they learn.
